                Mike Coots – a Kaua‘i native – is a surfer, photographer, and shark attack survivor who turned his traumatic experience into a mission of advocacy for shark conservation. After losing his right leg to a tiger shark at the age of 18, Coots not only returned to surfing with the help of a prosthetic limb but also became an influential voice in marine conservation. He works tirelessly to promote the protection of sharks, understanding their critical role in the ocean ecosystem. Coots uses his platform to educate the public on the importance of sharks and to push for legislative changes that protect these vital predators. His resilience and passion have made him a respected figure in both the surfing and environmental communities.
