Yoga Guru Donny Starkins

April 17th through April 20th

We are excited to welcome back Yoga Guru Donny Starkins.  A former Division 1 baseball player, Donny’s yoga journey started in 2005 as he searched for pain relief after seven knee operations. Today, Donny is one of the most dynamic leaders in the yoga industry. He leads classes, festivals and seminars internationally, incorporating asana and self-love with clear energy and authentic belief in the power of yoga. He is the official yoga instructor for the Phoenix Suns and educates other professional athletes in the teachings of yoga and mindfulness. Donny is a brand ambassador for some of today’s leading yoga brands including lululemon athletica and Spiritual Gangster.

With an emphasis on mindfulness, Donny challenges each student, while encouraging breath awareness and bringing clarity to alignment. His calm, focused instruction and peaceful energy makes even the most difficult position accessible to everyone. Donny’s teaching creates an overall connected, grounded and inspired experience for all levels of yoga.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17TH

Vinyasa Flow

8:00 am to 9:15 am
Location: Movement Studio

Vinyasa Yoga, also called “Flow Yoga” because of the smooth way that the poses run together, is one of the most popular contemporary styles of yoga. Donny’s teaching style is a beautiful balance of flowing the body one breath per movement and then using the second half of practice to hold postures but using that same steady breath the entire practice.

With an emphasis on mindfulness, he challenges each student while encouraging breath awareness and bringing clarity to alignment. His calm, focused instruction and peaceful energy makes even the most difficult positions accessible to everyone.

Sunset Slow Flow Yoga

4:00 pm to 5:15 pm
Location: Movement Studio

One of the most beautiful aspects of Slow Flow Yoga, is that it invites practitioners from all backgrounds, ability levels and body types.  You’ll be led through poses that range from gentle to challenging, but done with stable, self-centering energy at a gentle pace that places an emphasis on safe alignment and the maintaining balance of the slow breathing.  Slow Flow Yoga is particularly well-suited to newer students, or for those who desire deep concentration within their practice, most conducive to calming the mind and body.

Yin/Restorative

Both Yin and Restorative forms of yoga asana are slow-paced. They enable you to move slowly and focus on maybe 10 different poses for the entire 90 minute class. Both forms of practice calm the mind and nervous system, enable you to turn inward, and focus on the breath. This is an all-levels class and for everybody out there!

Yoga Nidra—known as yogic sleep—is a meditation and conscious relaxation practice that is intended to induce total physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. It is said that an hour of yoga nidra can be as restorative as four hours of regular sleep.

Yoga Nidra is generally practiced lying down so you can let go completely. Props, pillows and blankets are commonly used, as well as anything that will help you get into a totally comfortable, restful position. There is nothing physical about this practice and is perfect for the beginner. All you have to do is come and lay down!
