I’m the ravishing flower known as Sexy Pink, but my formal friends at Kukuiula’s Upcountry Community Farm call me Heliconia Chartacea. Roger Peckenpaugh, the farm’s project manager, knows all my secrets: I’m originally from Ecuador, but love Kauai. I’m seven feet tall, my flower hangs down and swirls beautifully, and I bloom a brilliant orangey blush all year round. Back home, I’m pollinated by hummingbirds, but there are no hummingbirds on Kauai, so I produce no seeds. Still, you can always harvest me at the farm or find me at the Wednesday’s Culinary Market at The Shops at Kukuiula. I’m gorgeously exotic as a cut flower in any decor; just imagine me in your new Hawaii luxury real estate home.
