The Best Real Estate on Kauai

THE BEST REAL ESTATE ON KAUAI – A GUIDE TO OUR NORTH AND SOUTH SHORE

The best real estate in Kauai really depends on the lifestyle you favor. Each side of Kauai casts its own love spell to visitors and residents alike. The North Shore, notable for picturesque places like Hanalei Bay, Hanalei town, Tunnels beach, and Kilauea, backs right up to green mountains painted with numerous waterfalls and taro fields. While the rainfall count is highest on this side of the island, it’s also what makes it so lush and beautiful. The small town “no worries, no hurries” mentality makes the north shore the ideal spot for those looking to slow life to a near halt.  There are some great restaurants in Hanalei town and a few local bars that offer nighttime entertainment, but for the most part, it’s a sleepy town that shuts down after sunset.

The real estate on the north shore is also some of the priciest, and has attracted many Hollywood names. Large estate homes overlook Kalihiwai bay, Hanalei bay, and Kilauea. Actor Will Smith just sold his north shore home for $20 million.

The south side of the island, which consists of Old Koloa Town & Poipu gives you a few more options. Named “the sunny south side,” it’s where the north shore population heads to find sunshine when the rain buckets overflow.  The real estate price points aren’t as high as the north shore, but you certainly have more options to choose from. Poipu homes range from old Hawaii plantation style, ocean front condos, cottages and family ranches.

Poipu offers an array of activities to choose from. From surf lessons and whale watching to snorkeling and sightseeing, this area of town is one of the most popular vacation destinations on the island. The Shops at Kukui’ula play host to a number of boutiques, clothing stores and restaurants. In addition to a weekly farmer’s market offering local produce, live music and a handful of Happy Hours. An outdoor souvenir market can also be found five minutes down the road at one of the most photographed spots on Kauai, Spouting Horn. A natural blowhole shooting up to 50 feet of ocean spray.
