2023 Is A Year Of Wellness At Kauaʻi’s Kukuiʻula

Kukui’ula, Kauaʻi’s first private luxury residential and resort community, has announced the Living Well Master Series for 2023, designed to bring an immersive restorative experience to both members and guests.

Led by culinary, health, and cultural “masters,” this bespoke offering will include small dinners, one-on-one consultations, and unique experiences. A portion of the proceeds will go to The Club at Kukuiʻula Community Benefit Fund and the visiting Master’s charity of choice.

“We are always evolving our programming to meet and exceed guest and member expectations,” says President at Kukuiʻula Richard Albrecht. “With wellness at the forefront of the conversation, the Living Well Master Series complements our robust wellness offerings at Kukuiʻula that our members and guests have come to know and love — from land to sea adventures to the Upcountry Farm and Lake to our renowned Hiʻilani Spa and Fitness experience.”

I experienced the spa firsthand last Fall and found it to be the deepest, most resonant spa experience of my entire year of travel. Its compelling indoor-outdoor design and elaborate water circuit, as well as the program’s emphasis on restorative treatments and modalities, catapulted this spa to the top of my 2022 list.

As Kauaʻi evolves as a wellness destination, the Living Well Master Series will be a welcome value-added for travelers to the Lodge, as well as current residents. One of the program’s emphases is on “mālama” (Hawaiian for “nurture, tend or take care of”) and includes cultural education and events.

The first Master to visit was Shiva Rea, founder of Prana Vinyasa Yoga, earlier this month. Upcoming Masters include:

  • March 20-23Taryn Toomey was driven by her sense of connection to spirit to develop the foundation of The Class, a space for students to transform with care, love and dynamic music.
  • April 6-8Brooke Williamson has carved out an impressive resume full of leading roles and professional achievements as a renowned top chef, including being crowned the first winner of Food Network’s “Tournament of Champions” in spring 2020.
  • July 12-15Baron Baptiste evolved the teachings of his parents to create Baptiste Power Yoga, which combines physical, meditative, and inquiry-based practices.
  • November 24-26Christopher Kostow became a Michelin-starred chef before the age of 30, taking a thoughtful approach to food and creating an extraordinary experience for guests of The Restaurant at Meadowood, The Charter Oak, Ensue, and his newest endeavor, Loveski.

Each Master’s residency is a collaboration between the visiting Master and the wellness team at Kukuiʻula and may include fitness instruction at the ocean view movement studio, meditation classes hosted within the meditation garden, sound healing programs at the open-air event pavilion, Hiʻilani Spa’s variety of treatments, and the legendary water ritual, which includes the sauna, steam room, hot and cold plunge, and more.

“Kauaʻi is an extremely magical place charged with refined energy and healing properties,” says Spa and Wellness Director Sienna Creasy. “Kukuiʻula is a safe haven for deep connection and openness and is a destination where members and guests strive to create a life of healing and balance alongside nature with the assistance, amenities and resources we offer.”

The culinary programs will utilize the property’s 10-acre upcountry Farm and 32-foot deep-sea fishing vessel to curate private chef’s dinners, cooking demonstrations, curated menus and tastings, and any other culinary excursion designed by the Master. Kukuiʻula will be a resource to the visiting chef, equipped with a staff of farmers who will plant a custom yield of the chef’s desired ingredients, a cultural consultation to ensure elements of the program are inspired by traditional Hawaiian culture, and a team to assist in bringing the Master’s vision to life.
