Deeply Rooted, Deeply Committed
As one of Hawaii’s most kamaaina companies, Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. is a publicly traded corporation (NYSE: ALEX) with business activities that can be traced to an 1870 sugarcane-growing venture, which led to involvement in ocean transportation, real estate, and other agricultural crops.
Now Hawaii’s fourth largest private landowner, with 88,300 acres primarily on Maui and Kauai, the real estate subsidiary A&B Properties, Inc. is the manager of KDC LLC, an affiliate of A&B and member of Kukuiula Development Company (Hawaii), LLC. A&B Properties and affiliates have developed master-planned communities, including the admired Wailea Resort on Maui, and is developing numerous residential, retail and industrial projects in Hawaii and on the U.S. mainland. In 2010, its income portfolio totaled 8.2 million square feet of leasable space. A&B still grows sugarcane on 35,000 acres on Maui.
